Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday beat all projections of 2-4 weeks by returning to the lineup in just a little over the week after undergoing an appendectomy. He had a hit and a RBI and started a sixth inning rally opening with a walk over San Francisco starter Barry Zito in the Cardinals 6-1 win on Sunday. On Opening Day, Holliday went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, but missed seven games.
Tony LaRussa answered the question with “Who’s better?” It’s not a ringing endorsement, but it sounds like more of a lack of better options when it comes to closer Ryan Franklin who has already blown three saves in four chances. In 2010, he only blew three saves in 29 chances. Franklin has allowed nine runners in 3.2 innings.
According to a story in Friday’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch, it is revealed in an upcoming biography on Cardinals Hall of Famer Stan Musial that he has Alzheimer’s. Musial was diagnosed with the disease in his mid 80’s. Musial is now 90.
