The Royals have shown early this season, they know how to win the close ball games. For the fourth time in a row they have won the game on their last at-bat. This time it came in the bottom of the 12th as the Royals beat the White Sox 7-6.
Chris Getz opened the 12th with a single up the middle against former Royal Tony Pena, and advanced to second on Mike Aviles’ sacrifice bunt. Melky Cabrera bounced a single up the middle to score Chris Getz.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the third time the Royals have won four straight games in their final at-bat. The other two times were in 2000 and 1989.
The Royals tied the game at 6-6 when Alex Gordon doubled off reliever Chris Sale and Billy Butler followed with a homer into the pool in left field. Gordon also homered earlier in the game. Gordon finished with three hits and is 7-for-11 with a homer, three doubles and six runs in the last two games.
The White Sox started the game with four runs before Luke Hochevar could even get an out. A three run blast from Paul Konerko made it look like it would be a short night for Hochevar. However, the Royals battled to tie the game at four, with two runs in each of the first two innings and Hochever settled down until the sixth when the Sox added two more on a single, triple and a Mike Aviles error.
