I know you probably don’t know a lot about Miami coach Frank Haith…and for good reason. We’re talking about Miami basketball. So why would Mike Alden want him for Missouri’s next coach? We may find out for sure within the next 24-48 hours.

First, I know fans are thinking that Missouri’s Board of Curators could nix this deal. That is highly unlikely to happen. A move like that would undercut Mike Alden’s authority and then you have bigger issues than trying to rally behind an unknown coach.

When the athletic department held their press conference after Anderson bolted for Arkansas, Alden said hiring a coach would be more than just wins and losses. They would be looking for a person with good character who would fit in well with the rest of the department as well as someone with a good record for graduating student-athletes.

So, until we hear from Alden on why he wanted Haith, some things to consider about his coaching record. Haith has averaged 18 wins a year at Miami, which doesn’t sound all that good, but it is a winning record and he has had three 20-win seasons in his 7 years there. The previous three coaches who worked there had three 20-win seasons over 19 years (1985-2004).
