A Columbia citizens group plans to unveil a new cemetery headstone for James T. Scott on April 30th. James T. Scott was lynched in Columbia in 1923 after being accused of raping the 14-year-old daughter of a University of Missouri professor. The ceremony also will honor three people involved in the incident, including the professor who pleaded with the lynch mob to let Scott have a trial.

Only one man was ever charged with the lynching. A Columbia jury took about ten minutes to declare him not guilty.
