St. Louis lawyer accused of stealing from estates

March 23, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A federal grand jury accuses St. Louis lawyer Steven Gartenberg of taking more than $100,000 from a man’s estate and using it for his law firm or his personal use.  The money has to have gone to a church, an Alzheimer’s Association, and to three individuals. The indictment also says he made more than $200,000 in unauthorized withdrawals from the account of a mentally-disabled woman for whom he was a guardian.
