Rogersville couple in jail on abuse charges

March 17, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A couple from Rogersville, who made an 8-year-old wear a diaper to karate class for misbehaving, is looking at two counts each of child abuse. Webster County Prosecutor Danette Padgett says her office got involved after receiving a call from officials with the Rogersville schools, saying there were concerns about him being lethargic and showing other signs of malcontent. Padgett says Helen Brown and Lee Ann Howard also deprived the boy of food and sleep until he was able to finish his homework. If found guilty, the women face up to 14 years in prison. They’re being held in jail now; the boy is being cared for by children’s services in Webster County.
