Rep. Sylvester Taylor (D-St. Louis County) returned to the House floor Thursday, two days after he left the chamber complaining of chest pains.

Taylor informed colleagues that he was diagnosed as having diabetes Tuesday evening at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City. Taylor was rushed to St. Mary’s after collapsing in the back room of the House chamber. Members of the House who are in the medical profession attended to Taylor until EMTs arrived at the Capitol and took him to the hospital on a stretcher.

It was feared he had suffered a heart attack. Taylor said his blood sugar had spiked and sent him into shock. He said his heart is fine.

Taylor said he would return to this work in the House after next week’s spring break.
