A freshman legislator taken to a Jefferson City hospital after complaining of chest pains during floor debate in the Missouri House is reportedly resting comfortably.

Business in the House came to an abrupt halt late Tuesday afternoon after Rep. Sylvester Taylor II of St. Louis County grew ill. Members of the House in the medical profession attended to Taylor until EMTs arrived to take him to St. Mary’s Hospital, only a few blocks from the Capitol.

An e-mail sent out by leaders of the House Minority Caucus describes Taylor, age 44, as resting comfortably. His wife and family arrived Tuesday evening. Physicians continue to run tests. The cause of the chest pains remains unknown.
