The Cardinals beat the Braves 4-0 on Tuesday, behind five solid innings from starter Kyle McClellan. He allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out five. In 12 spring training innings so far, McClellan has allowed just one earned run.

McClellan who figured to be a prominent member of Tonly LaRussa’s bullpen, started preparing for a shot at the rotation after Adam Wainwright got hurt.

Chris Carpenter set to make his second spring training start today against Detroit. If there are not setbacks from a strained hamstring, Carpenter is slated to be the opening day starter. Lance Berkman is over his sore throwing elbow. He’s scheduled to start in right field on Thursday.
