Alex Gordon may finally be showing the promise the Royals saw in him when he was selected number two overall in the 2005 draft. Gordon hit a two run homer to help the Royals to a 4-3 win over the A’s. Gordon went 2 for 3, and he’s now hitting .367 and has drawn a Cactus League high 11 walks giving him an on-base percentage of .558.

Gordon’s homer, his third this spring, came in the seventh inning after Melky Cabrera singled against A’s right-hander Fernando Cabrera.

Rule 5 Draft pick Nate Adcock made his first start for the Royals and notched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits. Adcock, has not allowed a run in eight innings so far as he tries to lock down a spot in the bullpen.

“It was the first time I’d thrown three innings in a while and the last inning, I started leaving the ball up sometimes but I’ll take it, I’m happy with it,” Adcock said.
