Royals batter the Cubs

March 9, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Melky Cabrera hit a three-run triple in a five-run first, Alex Gordon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Lance Zawadzki went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in Wednesday’s 13-4 win over the Cubs.

Bruce Chen (1-0), making his second start and third spring appearance, gave up two runs, three hits, and three walks over four innings, while striking out four.

The Royals knocked Cubs starter Matt Garza around for five runs in the first inning. Not sure what it is about the Royals, but Garza has only had one win against KC in 11 career starts. Garza gave up six runs in 2.2 innings.

Alex Gordon went 3 for 3 to raise his spring average up to .263 and Billy Butler picked up his 8th RBI.
