A federal judge gets a little testy with the city of Lee’s Summit and its lawyer. Judge Nanette Laughrey is presiding over a lawsuit filed by businessman Ted White, who won a $16 million judgment against the city. Although the city agreed to pay the money, it reneged after its lawyer told the city council the payment would violate a city ordinance.
White sued after spending five years in prison for child sexual abuse. While he was in prison it was learned that a city police detective conspired with White’s ex-wife to manipulate the evidence leading to the conviction. The officer is now married to White’s ex-wife and has left the police department.
