Family of man who fell and died is suing Starbucks

March 9, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The family of a man who tried to stop the robbery of a tips jar at a Crestwood Starbucks coffee shop is suing the coffee shop.

The suit says Starbucks should have known it was inviting a robbery when it left the jar on an open counter. The lawsuit says Roger Kreutz tried to stop a teenager who stole the jar … but Kreutz fell and suffered eventually-fatal head injuries. The teenager was later caught and sentenced to a year in jail for manslaughter. He is not named in the lawsuit.
