The last great-grandson of the Union commander in the Civil War has died in the town of Battlefield. Ulysses S. Grant V (the fifth) died at his home. He was 90 years old.

He was known as a family historian who had a large collection of artifacts related to his famous ancestor. He had spent most of his life as an avocado grower in California but had moved to the Springfield area to be near family. One of his 11 grandchildren is Ulysses S. Grant the sixth.
