The state senate has advanced the bill revising the dog breeder law adopted by voters last November.
Senators rejected a proposal to put the issue back to the voters next year, noting last November’s Proposition B would have driven many breeders out of business by then.
Sponsor Michael Parson of Bolivar says his bill includes much of proposition B but takes most provisions out of the criminal law and puts them into the realm of state regulation and penalties. He says Proposition B would put every licensed breeder out of business. He describes in layman’s’ terms what the proposition does to dog breeders.

But he says it does nothing about unlicensed breeders.
Parson says his bill takes a more realistic approach to breeders, makes sure the proposition does not affect other farm animals, and raises money for enforcement of its standards, something Proposition B does not do.
One more favorable vote sends the bill to the House, which also is working on a revision of the dog breeders act passed by voters.
