Kansas City police say that when one of their off-duty officers was knocked unconscious in a theater scuffle last weekend regained consciousness, he was surrounded by a group of people. They weren’t there to help. They were taking pictures of him with their cell phones.

The officer is recovering from a couple of cuts, a broken nose, and a chipped tooth. The Jackson County prosecutor had charged Richmond resident Joseph S. Smith with hitting the officer with a chair.

The officer was moonlighting as a security guard.
