A.J. Pollock’s (no relation) three-run homer helped give the D-backs a come from behind 8-6 victory over the Royals in a split-squad game in Surprise, AZ. A total of seven homers with a 21-mph wind blowing toward center field throughout the game.
Melky Cabrera hit a home run over the right field wall to open the Royals’ second inning against starter Arizona Aaron Heilman. Kila Ka’aihue hit his third homer of the spring to right in the third inning to give Kansas City a 5-0 lead.
Royals starter Jeff Francis also worked three innings, holding the D-backs scoreless on three singles. Konrad Schmidt hit a two run dinger off Royals closer Joakim Soria. Juan Miranda led off the sixth inning with a homer against setup man Robinson Tejeda.
The Royals’ Clint Robinson hit the fifth homer of the game to lead off the eighth inning against Josh Collmenter.
