The Kansas City Police Department will pay more than $3.6 million dollars to settle a class action lawsuit of improperly confiscating personal property during criminal investigations. A circuit judge has tentatively approved the settlement. The Kansas City Star says the police department does not admit to any wrongdoing. Lawyers for both sides say it’s cheaper than continuing the suit.

One man has been fighting the department for 15 years after officers confiscated a car, jewelry and a certificate of deposit worth more than $130,000 dollars. His conviction was later overturned but he never got anything back.
