Wildwood is the latest Missouri city to start moving on a pseudoephedrine prescription ordinance. An ordinance is being drafted for the city council to consider.

Several cities and counties have adopted ordinances forbidding sales of cold medicines with pseudoephedrine without prescriptions. Backers of the ordinances say they reduce the availability of a main ingredient for the manufacture of methamphetamines.

The Jasper County sheriff says what’s good for the city should be good for the county, too — at least when it comes to restricting sales of a main ingredient in meth making. The sheriff has asked the county commission to pass an ordinance requiring prescriptions for the sale of cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine. The Joplin City council adopted the ban last month.
