Flags at state buildings will be flying at half-staff in memory of Frank Buckles, America’s last World War I veteran, who died last weekend. Buckles was born in Harrison County, in northwest Missouri, and later lived in southwest Missouri’s Vernon County.

The governor has ordered the flags lowered at state buildings in those two counties, and at state buildings in all counties on the day of Buckles’ funeral.

Buckles died at his farm home in West Virginia. He was 110.
