There were certainly some positives to pull from the Royals 12-11 loss to the Texas Rangers on Monday afternoon in Surprise, AZ. so I’ll start with those.

Starting pitcher Vin Mazzaro, who came over in the David DeJesus trade from Oakland, pitched two innings and allowed two lead off doubles and no runs. One of those doubles was from Ian Kinsler, the former Missouri Tiger. He would also homer later.

The Royals got home runs from their top two prospects, Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer. Mike Aviles and Billy Butler had big hits. Aviles had a two run triple in the third and Butler had a two run single in the fifth.
