Maya Moore, who lived in Jefferson City before she moved in the fifth grade was honored last night by the UCONN women’s basketball program as her and number were unveiled high above the court in the Huskies of Honor section of Gampel Pavilion.
Moore joined 12 other UConn women’s greats, coach Geno Auriemma, and the 1994-95 and 1999-00 teams in a ceremony that took place before their final Big East regular season game. Moore then took over in the Huskies’ win over Syracuse.
She scored 23 points in an 82-47 win to clinch UCONN’s ninth undefeated Big East regular season. UConn (29-1, 16-0), has won 17 straight games since its lone loss of the season to Stanford on Dec. 30 that snapped the Huskies’ record 90-game winning streak.
