Matt Holliday and Allen Craig each hit two-run homers in the Cardinals’ 7-1 win over the Marlins, but the win came with a pair of injuries. Ace Chris Carpenter left with a strained left hamstring, while right-hander Mitchell Boggs suffered a strained lower back.

Carpenter was solid for 2.2 innings, allowing a second-inning single to Scott Cousins. With two outs in the third, he walked Chris Coghlan on four pitches, and he was lifted, after feeling a tweak in his leg after 32 pitches on the day. Then, an inning later, the Cardinals’ had to remove Boggs was removed while facing former Royals catcher John Buck.

In the first inning, Ryan Theriot had a one-out single, and Holliday went deep with two outs on a 1-2 fastball. The Cardinals added on a pair of runs in the sixth on Jon Jay’s two-out, two-run homer off Frank Mata.
