Springfield’s St. John’s Hospital says a woman injured earlier this month by a fire in her room did not die because of the fire.
Springfield fire officials link the death of Eileen Moorehouse to smoking while using oxygen in her hospital room. She died earlier this week, 16 days after the fire left her with second-degree burns to her right arm, the back of her neck, and her face. The hospital says Moorehouse died from lung cancer. She’d been at the hospital since early January.
The Greene County Medical examiner is reviewing the situation.
