Senator Blunt addressed the Missouri House during his stop in Jefferson City, telling members that he well understands that what happens in Washington has a big impact on Jefferson City.
Blunt, a Republican, said Congress needs to regain a healthy respect for the system established by the Founding Fathers that gives the federal government specific duties, but also gives the states rights as well. Blunt sympathized with the tough budget Missouri faces.
“The challenges before state governments are very real and they’re real, because you have to have a balanced budget,” Blunt stated during his brief address to the House. “They’re real, because like the families you and I represent, you have to make the hard decisions that eventually the money coming in equals the money going out.”
Blunt said he last spoke from the Speaker’s dais when he was Secretary of State.
