The state transportation department calculates it spent $8.7 million fighting the effects of this month’s blizzard. That money paid for 30,000 tons of salt and other abrasives spread on roads and bridges by more than 2,500 employees using 1,600 pieces of equipment and working more than 90,000 hours.
