Newcomer Nick Punto is expected to be out 8-12 weeks after he will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia. Punto came into spring training camp with groin issues, but was still working out through the pain. Punto returned to St. Louis where he was re-evaluated.

General Manager John Mozeliak says April and certainly most all of May is out of the question. That will solidfy an opening day roster spot for Tyler Greene and possibly one more infielder, either Daniel Descalso or Ramon Vazquez.

All eyes were on 2009 number one draft pick Shelby Miller who was popping the glove in live BP and making hitters look foolish with nasty off speed stuff already. Tony LaRussa is impressed with his poise on the mound already at such a young age.
