Borders closing six stores in Missouri

February 17, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The Borders Bookstore chain is closing a half-dozen of its stores as it reorganizes in bankruptcy.

The company is closing stores in Ballwin, Chesterfield, and St. Peters in the St. Louis area. It’s closing a store in Kansas City, another in Springfield, and one in St. Joseph. Those are among 200 stores the chain is closing, about 30 percent of its outlets nationally. The company has not been profitable since 2006.
