KC fireman might lose leg after crash

February 16, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The driver of a Kansas City fire truck might lose a leg after wrecking his truck to avoid colliding with an oncoming car. Police say the driver of the car might have crossed the center line while trying to pull around vehicles that had stopped so the fire truck could go past. The truck driven by fireman Jeff Smith was trapped in the wreckage when his truck knocked down a utility pole and hit a tree. The truck hit the other car, leaving the driver with minor injuries.
