Pujols, Cardinals agree to 24 hour extension

February 15, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Don’t get your hopes up Cardinal fans. The two sides will not reach an agreement before Wednesday at noon, Florida time. This is merely out of respect for the greatest Cardinal to ever play the game.

Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to extend the deadline for contract extension talks out of respect for Cardinals Hall of Famer Stan Musial, who will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in Washington today. Cards GM John Mozeliak said the club did not want to distract from Musial’s special day.

There will also almost be no chance for an agreement to be reached by both sides on Albert’s new deal because Cardinals team chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and Mozeliak are with the 90-year-old Musial in Washington.
