The Central Missouri Mules held the Washburn Ichabods scoreless over the final 4:21 and came from four behind to take a 65-61 win at the Multipurpose Building on Wednesday night. It was the third win in a row for UCM, and it helped Head Coach Kim Anderson record his 200th career win.
With about four minutes to play, WU’s Jadarren Mumpfield stole the ball from UCM guard Bryce Brunz and broke for the bucket on a fastbreak, but Brunz was whistled for an intentional foul on Nate Daniels at the bucket, giving WU two foul shots and the ball with a four-point lead. The Ichabods failed to capitalize on it though, missing both free throws, followed by a steal from senior forward Joel Barkers to make it an empty trip.
That stop spurred the Mules, as they out-scored the Ichabods 8-0 over the final 2:24 to get the win. A drive and layup by Boo Hunter with 1:40 on the clock tied it at 61, before a long jumper from senior guard Tyrone Young gave UCM the lead with 1:01 to play. After another Mule stop, the Ichabods fouled Hunter with 12 seconds left. After a timeout, he calmly hit both free throws to ice the victory, and avenge an earlier loss to WU.
