Rams QB Sam Bradford was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press Friday during a ceremony held at the NFL’s Super Bowl media center in the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.
“This is a great honor,” Bradford said. “I’m grateful for the recognition, but I wouldn’t be receiving this award if it weren’t for my teammates and coaches. There were a lot of people around me that contributed to my success as a rookie, and I’m extremely appreciative of each of them.”
Bradford set new NFL rookie records for completions (354) and attempts (590), and his 3,512 passing yards are second most ever by an NFL rookie, trailing only Peyton Manning’s 3,739 yards in 1998. Bradford tossed 18 touchdown passes, tied for fifth most by a rookie in NFL history.
This season, Bradford joined Manning and Baltimore’s Joe Flacco as the only three quarterbacks in the NFL to take every offensive snap for his team. Bradford is just the fourth rookie to take every snap for his team in a 16 game season, joining Manning, Matt Ryan (2008) and David Carr (2002).
After joining the Rams as the top overall pick in April’s draft, Bradford led the team to seven wins during his rookie season. Since 1970, no quarterback taken number one overall has won more games as a rookie than Bradford did.
