Missouri gets an “F” for food-borne illnesses

January 20, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The Center for Science in the Public Interest says Missouri is one of worst states in the country when it comes to adequately detecting and reporting food-related outbreaks. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has graded all 50 states and gives an “F” to Missouri and 13 other states.

The group says Missouri reported one outbreak of food-borne illnesses per million residents in the decade ending in 2007. The top two states, Oregon and Minnesota, reported eight.

Reporting more incidents is good in the Center’s ratings.
