History repeats itself. At the beginning of 2008, Matt Cassel replaced Tom Brady after he went down with a season ending knee injury in the opener against Kansas City. Now, it looks like Cassel will have to step in again for Brady at this year’s Pro Bowl.

WCVB-TV in Boston is reporting that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss out on the Pro Bowl because of upcoming foot surgery, and Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel will take his place.

Cassel will join offensive teammates Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and Brian Waters. Cassel had a nice connection with Bowe as they got together for 15 touchdown passes, but no doubt the Chiefs offense was centered around Charles and the run game. Cassel’s last two starts were anything bu Pro Bowl worthy.

In the big losses to Oakland and then Baltimore in the Wildcard playoff game, his passer ratings were 19.1 against the Raiders and 20.4 against the Ravens.
