A warning to drivers going into St. Louis or leaving St. Louis on Interstate 70: Police departments in eight St. Louis County communities have launched intensive new speeding enforcement efforts.

And they’re charging speeders a whole lot more than a Highway Patrol ticket would be.

The I-70 accident reduction zone begins with St. Ann on the west and continues through Pine Lawn. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports a ticket for going five to ten miles-an-hour over the limit that could cost you $83 if the Highway Patrol stops you. The same violation would cost $150 if an officer from one of the communities writes you up.
