Whiteman AFB airman found dead

January 14, 2011 By admin

Luis Vazquez

The airman who was missing from Whiteman Air Force Base has been found dead. The Johnson County Sheriff’s department says they found the body of 18-year-old Airman Luis Vazquez in a remote area of Knob Noster State Park.

They’re investigating the case as a homicide and say 19-year-old airman Kirby Barbe told a female companion that he had critically injured another airman and left the body in the park. Barbe shot and killed himself on Tuesday after a standoff with police in Blanco, Texas. Police do not yet know the motive of the killing or the cause of death.

The two men were last seen alive together near Whiteman Air Force Base on Sunday night.
