Raccoon hunter shoots mountain lion in Ray Co.

January 12, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The conservation department has gotten the straight story on who shot the mountain lion in Ray County on January 2. It wasn’t a farmer, it was a hunter … who was looking for raccoons.

The department says he thought he’dtreed one but when he shined his flashlight into the tree he saw eyes that were too far apart for a raccoon. A department spokesman says the hunter was afraid to run because the thought the mountain lion would atack him. So he shot and killed it. No charges will be filed.
