Fort Wood resumes regular training after twister (AUDIO)

January 4, 2011 By [email protected]

Thousands of soldiers have returned to Fort Leonard Wood aftheir Christmas breaks days after a a tornado hit part of the installation. Spokesman Jeff Maddy says training has resumed normally although some programs have been moved because of building damage. More than 160 families have been relocated because their housing has been damaged or destroyed.

He says Fort Wood got “phenomenal” community support after the tornado to get the base ready for the return of about 10,000 soldiers who’d been gone for Christmas break. Most of them returned yesterday.
