Man pleads, agrees to testify in murder trial

January 3, 2011 By [email protected]

One of two men charged with murdering a woman, her unborn child, and her 15-year-old son in Charleston last year has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder and will testify against the other man. The prosecutor says he’ll recommend a 20-year prison sentence for Samuel Hughes, who says he thought he was taking part in a burglary and did not know killings would result.

The prosecutor accuses another man, Ryan Patterson, and Michelle Lawrence, whose estranged husband was dating Jamie Lynn Orman, who was murdered.
