Everyone could use a little extra cash around the holidays. More than a thousand Missourians still have a check with their name on it waiting for them – from the IRS.

Every year, hundreds of Missourians don’t get their federal tax refund checks the first time because the IRS didn’t have their correct address. Michael Devine with the Internal Revenue Service says these checks get orphaned in many different ways.

“Most of the time the checks are returned because of a life change such as a marriage or divorce. College students who filed their taxes in April, and then graduated and moved in May. It’s just, life happens and you forget that you didn’t get it,” Devine said.

The more than one thousand Missourians that didn’t get their checks had an average dollar total of $995; amounting to almost $1.3 million dollars in uncashed checks in the state. He says the process to get that check is simple when going through an automated process on the IRS website. Follow this link to get started.
