Tuesday will be D-Day for Missouri Census numbers

December 17, 2010 By [email protected]

We will learn next Tuesday whether Missouri will continue to have nine representatives in the United States House of Representatives or whether we’ll elect only eight members in 2012.

The Census Bureau will release the first chunk of information from this spring’s nose-count.

Missouri has been considered a state on the bubble. Minnesota, the other one, had a greater rate of mail-in returns.

Missouri lost a seat after the 1980 census. The legislature redrew the congressional districts that year to combine districts represented by Wendell Bailey and Ike Skelton. Skelton beat Bailey in ’82.
