A former Jasper County deputy sheriff has been convicted of conspiring with his former wife to murder a woman by whom he had fathered a child.

The ex-wife of former deputy Casey Simmons had been cooperating with investigators who had wired her car to record a conversation with Simmons in which he talked about planning the woman’s murder.

The killing never took place. Simmons faces as much as 15 years in prison.
