Cape council moves to require prescription for cold medicine

December 7, 2010 By [email protected]

The city with pharmacies that have led the state in pseudoephedrine medicine sales the last two months now has an ordinance saying people will need a doctor’s prescription to get those medicines. The city council of Cape Girardeau has voted 4-3 to approve a prescription ordinance.

The Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian reports that one of those urging passage of the ordinance was a policeman from Poplar Bluff, which has had a prescription ordinance for a year. He told council members about 85% of the Poplar Bluff residents who had gone to Cape Girardeau to buy pseudoephedrine medications are familiar to authorities as meth makers.
