The Blues scored three straight goals after falling behind 5-1 midway through the second period, but Chicago’s stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews scored late in the third period to hold off the Blues 7-5 in front of 21,140 fans at the United Center.

The Hawks came out charged up in front of their home crowd. It was the first home game since Nov. 14 for Chicago (14-11-2), which went 4-2-0 during the past two weeks on its annual “Circus Trip.”

In a game that featured backup goalies, Ty Conklin for the Blues and Corey Crawford for Chicago, the teams combined for 12 goals, 19 penalties, and three fights.

David Backes led the Blues with one goal and four points. Peter Berklund, Brad Boyes, Eric Brewer and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for St. Louis.
