Halak pounded by Avs offense in Blues loss

November 16, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak has always played the Colorado Avalanche well in his previous starts in Denver where he came in with a stingy 1.79 GAA. On Monday night, the Avs pounded Halak for six goals on 23 shots as the Blues lost again 6-3.

The Blues lost their fourth in a row and after winning nine of their first 12, have managed just one win in the last five games.

Avalanche defenseman John-Michael Liles matched his career highs with two goals and three points in the first period as Colorado erased an early 1-0 Blues’ lead to go up 3-1. The Blues cut the lead to 3-2 at 14:56 of the second on a goal by defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo, who sat out the previous seven games because of a concussion.

The Avs came back and hammered Halak with two goals 17 seconds apart to make it a 5-2 game. At 7:26 of the third, Brad Boyes scored a power play goal to pull the Blues to within 5-3, but Kevin Porter scored for Colorado six minutes later.
