Cardinals left handed starter Jaime Garcia finished a distant third in the National League Rookie of the Year, although he did receive one first place vote. Finishing ahead of Garcia was Jason Hayward of Atlanta who was second and Giants’ catcher Buster Posey won the honors.

Posey finished with 20 first place votes. Hayward had nine, and Garcia had one. Gaby Sanchez of Florida was fourth with two first place votes. Garcia had one second place vote and 16 third place votes.

In other Cardinal news, GM John Mozeliak said he would like to get working on contract extension talks with Albert Pujols between now and Christmas. Mozeliak is in Orlando right now for GM meetings.

Third base coach Jose Oquendo feels he is a serious contender for the Mets’ managerial job. There are reportedly 10 candidates for the job. For a number of years, Oquendo’s name as come up as a possible replacement for Tony LaRussa.
