Three Missouri schools make D-II NCAA volleyball tourney

November 15, 2010 By Bill Pollock

The University of Central Missouri Jennies will be the host and No. 1 seed for the NCAA Division II South Central Region Volleyball Tournament. Times and ticket prices have been set for the tournament, taking place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the UCM Multipurpose Building.

Thursday (Session 1)

12:00 p.m. No. 3 Truman vs. No. 6 Abilene Christian
2:30 p.m. No. 2 Washburn vs. No. 7 Northwest Missouri
5:00 p.m. No. 4 Emporia State vs. No. 5 West Texas AM
7:30 p.m. No. 1 Central Missouri vs. No. 8 St. Mary’s (Texas)

Northwest Missouri State (15-14) will be making its first NCAA Division II volleyball tournament appearance in program history. The Bearcats are seeded seventh in the South Central Regional and will face second-seeded Washburn (30-2) at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Warrensburg, Mo.

The Bearcats and the Lady Blues split their regular-season series. Washburn swept the Bearcats in Topeka back on Sept. 14. Northwest upset then-No.2 Washburn in a five-set thriller Oct. 19 in Maryville.

The Truman volleyball team is headed to its 12th overall NCAA tournament appearance and 11th straight after being named the No. 3 seed in the South Central region by the NCAA Volleyball committee on Monday night. The Bulldogs will face Abilene Christian (Texas) in the tournament’s first round on Thursday in Warrensburg, Mo.

Truman (25-7) earned an at-large berth and will face fellow at-large ACU (26-5) at a time to be announced on Thursday. The Bulldogs and ACU have faced once already this season, with the Bulldogs winning a 3-2 decision at the Washburn Lady Blues Classic on Oct. 2. Truman leads the limited all-time series with the Wildcats, 2-1, and this will be the first time the programs have met in postseason play.
