MU president: higher ed cuts would mean ‘significant tuition increases’

November 12, 2010 By Jessica Machetta

University of Missouri president Gary Forsee warns of significant tuition increases if anticipated cuts are made in the state higher education budget next year. Forsee has told a Kansa City group that a ten percent tuition hike would not bge enough to offset anticipated higher education budget cuts next year.

State law says universities will be penalized if they raise tuitions above the inflation rate.  Forsee says the University plans to ask for a waiver of the penalty although he has not said how much of a tuition increase he expects.
