What else is new? More postseason hardware for Cardinals’ first basemen Albert Pujols. A day after claiming the Gold Glove, he was named the Silver Slugger winner for National League first basemen edging out Cincinnati’s Joey Votto. The MVP Award is announced November 22nd, it is expected to be either Pujols or Votto.

Matt Holliday claimed one of three outfield Silver Slugger Awards. Holliday hit .312 to finish as the club’s top hitter to go along with 28 homers and 103 RBI. He hit a respectible .271 with runners in scoring position.

Pujols finished just percentage points behind Holliday in leading the Cardinals in average and led the NL with 42 homers and 118 RBI. Votto of the Reds, hit .324 with 37 homers and 113 RBI. When it comes to the MVP, you could flip a coin in terms on looking at numbers, but I believe it has to go to Votto who carried that team through injuries and a close battle with St. Louis all year to win the Central Division.
