Attorney General Chris Koster said today Reynolds County Judge Kelly Wayne Parker has sentenced Scott Lee Pavlik, 48, to 5 years in state prison for two counts of 2nd degree statutory rape.  The Court further ordered Pavlik to be placed in the Sex Offender Assessment Unit for 120 days to evaluate his risk to reoffend and to determine whether he may be released under supervision by the State Board of Probation and Parole.  Pavlik pled guilty to the charges in July.

Koster said Pavlik was a family friend who cared for the 14-year-old victim’s ill father.  There were five separate incidents of alleged sexual abuse, which occurred between August 2006 and September 2007.  During this period of time, the victim’s father became too ill to care for her; and she was forced to move in with Pavlik and his family, where the abuse occurred.

“My deepest sympathy goes out to this young girl and her family,” Koster said.  “Though nothing can undo the harm done to the victim, I’m gratified that this man has been brought to justice.”

Koster said his office assisted Reynolds County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Johnson in prosecuting the case.
